The row behind the waiting shed had 3 families. So kami (Avenir) ang right beside Coop. Then kasama namin Salazar (we only know him as Mang Gara of College of Music) and Sabalza. Row at the back of our house mas marami families dun sa kanilang row- Guanzon, Almonte, Linsaw (Mang Joe the driver and gardener of the Infirmary), Tizon, and 1 or 2 more families I cannot recall now. 3rd row I remember Lopez (family of Modesto Lopez). Some of those I remember were the 2nd residents of the cottage units. Geline or Juji, my siblings could help me with the other names.
At the Back of Coop- Mateo (before them Arsenio Manuel before they moved to Area 2), de Leon and Falcon (I think they're related to the Nemenzos).
Next row Original house of Armando Alvarez and Lapuebla plus 1 or 2 more families.
Okay I will also ask my siblings to refresh my memory on some other families who were our neighbors around the Coop area. Yun sa opposite end ng Area 3, near Infirmary, I will ask a friend who was the neighbor of Landrito, Teves, Olalia, Arana, etc to give me the names and specific cottage assigned. Try ko gawa nung illustration.
Oo nga pala sila Gonzales. We called their father Mang Angel. He was quite active in the UP Chapel activities, along with Mr. Mateo, father of Josie and Tessie. I think sila Gonzales started in Area 5. Katabi nila doon sa Area 3 sila Valbuena.
Oo nga pala sila Gonzales. Their first cottage was in Area 5 I think. Katabi nila sila Valbuena. My classamet is a younger brother si Jerry who now works in UP Admin.
Vg Avenir. 01 Apr. Our row was the 1st ( Sabalza, Mang Gara Salazar, Avenir). Next row included Solivar (with their beautiful garden) at the corner fronting your house, then Tizon, Mang Jose (infirmary driver), Mang Tiyong, Almonte (Marcial Almonte is here, please give inputs on our area too if you're not busy), Guanzon. Next row Montes (yun meron sari-sari store and yun father sa UP Gym nag work), Lopez (Bong and Carmen Lopez' family), Camilon. Last row sila Simons, Valbuena, Gonzales (Mang Angel), Mendoza (Isabelita and Alex Mendoza).

On that block na Kaharap nila Machan lived my klsmate Bobby Gonzales whose dad was a pulis hagad. Bobby now lives in Vallejo, CA. He had a younger sister. Their mum also played mahjong; tila kaklase ni Mrs Villaflor. hehe.
sila Mang Gara Salazar, when the Area 3 sawali hauses were demolished, they moved to a sawali somewhere in Area 17, close to the Faculty Centr
sabay kami nila Mang Gara nag move to Area 14. We shared the cottage formerly nila Cesar Virata (ayan one of the prominent residents ng cottages). The cottage was divided- sa front sila Mang Gara, kami sa back. Doon din nag move ang many of the Area 3 cottage residents dahil Area 3 was to be converted to the UP Shopping Center. Neighbors namin sa Area 14 sila Jimmy Alvarez (UP Library) and Lapuebla.
My recollections of the Area 3 sawali. Vg promised to update this side of Area 3 also.
Along the main road :
At the corner with Apacible St (Infirmary side) was a sari-sari store that sold turon (my fave).
Nexy to that towards the Coop was Ruiz de Arana the newspaper rasyon supplier .
Along Apacible St after the sari sari corner store: Teves?, Marquina (Josie was a dotir), Lapresca (Abet was a son).
At the next corner was the sari sari store of Aling Mila Alvarez. Mang Oca Alvarez was the Chief of Police.
Facing this sawali block:
Permanent house of Mrs Bienvenida Gamad, UP Elem teacher, 2-storey. Pioneer at Area 3.
Then the permanent house of Machan whose garden was so well-kept with those flowering bougainvillas esp in summer. Also 2-storey haus. Their lawn was always manicured. Their haus was on a big lot. Another Area 3 pioneer.
Along this side were sawali houses of Vales (Nilo Vales was my Elem klsmate, he became a male nurse), Baladad (Aling Andring of Coop).
Bungalows along Apacible St.
#51 Tongson (Dr Mario Tongson of Vet Med and Mrs Manolita Quiambao Tongson, a Food Tech grad). When they left, Martin Gregorio of Spanish and Lucille Gregorio of Coll of Education took over. Kids were Patrick, Allan, Cecilia (Inday), Ryan and TinTin (deceased last yr, big C).
#53 Cortes. Dotirs were Marichu & Karen.
Across the road at the corner with M Viola St: Small 2-BR house occupied by Peace Corps first, then when Area 3 sawali was demolished, Mang Oca and ALing Mila Alvarez moved there, together with kids Jun Alvarez and MeqMeq.
Next haus up towards Aguinaldo St: Macapinlac.
Next: Used to be occupied by American visiting professor, Sturtevant. A dotir, Lyn Sturtevant was a klsmate in Gr 6. When they left, Lyn gave me their MAD comiks and another one of my favorite kids magazines that I have forgotten (the UP Elem library had a subscription of those). Then occupied jointly by Miss Marina Dayrit and Miss Flora Violanda.
Next: Dr Soriano and Mrs Beatriz Soriano of UP Elem.
Upon crossing Aguinaldo St, hindi ko ko na alam. (Maybe Tim and Tina Kalagayan can help?)
From our side of Apacible St:
#52 Aquino . Mrs Clarissa Aquino of Chem. Yaya Mary (Aling Mary). Kids - Carina Beza (that's me, only child by her 1st marriage, my dad died when I was 2, then she remarried to Aquino), Ruthie Aquino, Lito, Tom and Nolet.
#54 Dr Serafin Quiazon (Director of the National Library yata) and Mrs Sonia Quiazon (of Botany, then Microbiology teacher at Food Tech Dept).
#56 Dean Rogelio Juliano of Fisheries and Mrs Araceli Juliano (will have to ask Jon Juliano where his mum taught).
#58 Dr Aparicio Mequi of PE, and Mrs Julie Mequi. Kids - Twinkle and Pebbles.
Next was the back entrance to Cervantes permanent haus whose front was at Area 1.
Next: Formerly occupied by UNESCO scholars din yata. Then Mr Castillo of UP Elem & wife.
Next: Occupied first by the Vila family. Then Mrs Ermelina Kalagayan, University Cashier. Kids - Tina, Tito and Tim.
Across the road fr Aguinaldo St:
Dr Clara Lim-Sylianco of Chem.
Next - dunno anymore.
Along M Viola St from Apacible St , after Cortes at the corner:
Mr Primo Prado of Education or UP Prep? Widower, Dotirs Grace and Mila. Will ask more details fr Mila who is my kabatch. When Prado left, haus occupied jointly by Miss Teresa de Villa and Miss Eleanor Hermosa of UP High, both English teachers. Miss Hermosa died in 2006 yata.
Next: Murillo family. Mrs Frances Murillo
Next: forgot already.
Along M Viola fr Apacible St, after Alvarez at the cnr:
Small 2-BR haus, occupied by Peace Corps or UNESCO scholars (?) first. Then Mrs Nieves Epistola of English and husband Silvino (S.V.) (childless).
Next: Mr Pete Daroy (Bachelor). Then Mrs Carol Hernandez of Poli Sci and Atty Jojo Hernandez (APO frat) and their family. They totally renovated the haus and built it up; now 2-storey yata.
Next: dunno na.

Hi Nina Beza Demonteverde. I lived at 29 Juan Luna in Area 1. On that row of houses beginning from the right of the stream were: Justo, Yap, Hidalgo, Antonio, David, and then I don't know the rest going upwards up the hill. From the left of the stream, I think is another Area. If you are "coordinating" the memories of residents, please do not mention about crushes for whom or to whom by me. I don't think I would like to have a record of that, and I really didn't think anyone here would know Bernard. Sorry!

Yes, that was Dr David of Psych. My father was Dr Cesar A Hidalgo, PhD and he was Dean of the Dept of English and Comparative Literature and Dean of UP Clark. - Like · Unfollow Post · Report · 5 hours ago
